  1. There are probably many priests across the country who fear that if they make a strong stand on any contemporary social or political issue, that they will alienate some or many of their parishioners. If so, then I would say they need to realize that by taking a strong stance on Catholic beliefs and morals and demanding that their parishioners live the faith they profess to have, that they would inspire and influence far more than would be turned off.

A good ‘flavorful seasoning’ attracts attention and demands a reaction. Stale, flavorless salt is at best ignored, and at worst, is likely to be thrown out in favor of something else.

Whatever our feelings about politicians like Obama, one cannot deny the fact that he is well-spoken, dynamic, and energetic, while all too many of our Catholic leaders are wishy-washy and don’t seem to have any real fire.

We need leaders who will follow the example of Pope St. Leo The Great, and ride out to ‘face the Huns.’

    • You’re exactly right. At least there are a few encouraging examples in the news today: NJ and Cardinal Burke. So, just maybe, some of the other bishops will take up the banner of Christ and start acting like the shepherds they were appointed to be.
