The Catholic Vote

A voting booth

”We are called by Christ to be salt and light to the world, and to infuse the culture around us with the values of our faith. And so I urge you to take your Catholic beliefs, values and consciences into the voting booth with you.

“I would not tell you how to vote or who to vote for, but it is my responsibility to remind you that, for us Catholics, some issues are simply never morally acceptable. The taking of an innocent human life, whether inside the womb or not, and up until natural death, is always and everywhere intrinsically evil. Such issues as embryonic stem cell research and attempts at human cloning are also direct attacks against the dignity and uniqueness of human life made in the image of God. Finally, preserving the dignity of traditional marriage is of central importance and must never be undermined because marriage is a cornerstone of any stable society. Any attempts to re-define marriage as something other than between a man and a woman, should be vigorously opposed by a Catholic as contrary to reason, the natural law, and the divinely revealed truths of the Bible.”

  1. And would those voters go for voting for a Mormon who could bring in Mormon prayers in the schools and allow people to have more than one wife, and above all shall prefer economical gain above human welfare?

    • You must know something about Romney that nobody else is reporting. Do you have some secret knowledge of some hidden conspiracy you would like to share with us? A loss of religious liberty as proposed in the HHS mandate is a certainty and whatever religion you are will be affected – and that is no private conspiracy theory it is the new law that the Obama administration has already mandated. A vote for Romney is not an endorsement of the Mormon faith, it is an attempt to safeguard religious liberty for all people and hopefully a rejection that governments should leave the welfare of the poor and needy to the Churches, charities and individuals who would like to help their neighbors get back on their feet. Governments who give aid as an entitlement to their people are enslaving them to perpetual poverty instead of offering them a way out of their circumstance. I would rather teach someone to fish rather than give them a fish and have them looking to me for a fish everyday for the rest of their lives: as I say, that is slavery.

        • Well the Christadelphians, from what I know, do not believe in the Trinity. They think that God the Father is a physical being and that Christ is wholly human but divinely created by the “power of God” which is what we call the Holy Spirit. Their Baptism is not considered valid by Catholics – same as that of Mormons and Jehovah’s Wintnesses.

Neighbor being the operative word. Someone should know these people–where they live, where they worship, where they raise their kids, whether they have an addiction or emotional problem, has their family tried to help or not, have their friends tried to help. When the neighbors know all of this, then they can determine the best course. Not some far-off bureaucrat. The poorest of the poor and the sickest of the sick should get state or federal help, but all others should have to rely on neighbors. Knowing this would lead all to be much more civil to their own neighbors. We would have a community again. We would have community standards again.

  2. Servus Fidelis you wrote that you think the Christadelphians take God as a physical being … just the opposite we accept that what is written in the Bible that God is a spirit who had no begin and has no ending, who is the only One God, being One and not three, and being God of gods.

And יהושע {Jehsua} answered him, “The first of all the commands is, ‘Hear, O Yisra’ĕl יהוה {Jehovah} our Elohim, יהוה {Jehovah} is one.

Jesus, we accept that he is a human being, who was born (begotten of the Father) and really died (while God the Father can not die.) and after he was raised by his Father went up to sit at the right hand of the one who is mightier than him Jesus and to whom he will hand over the Kingdom again.

“You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you did love Me, you would have rejoiced that I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. (John 14:28 The Scriptures 1998+)
But he, being filled with the Set-apart Spirit, looked steadily into the heaven and saw the esteem of Elohim, and יהושע {Jehsua} standing at the right hand of Elohim, [ יהוה {Jehovah}] (Acts 7:55 The Scriptures 1998+)
And when all are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself shall also be subject to Him who put all under Him, in order that Elohim be all in all. (1 Corinthians 15:28 The Scriptures 1998+)

Our baptism is by having people who have the full spirit of thinking and can choose themselves to go for God. As such we do not accept baby baptism, because they themselves can not choose or say they believe in God or believe in Jesus. Only when people did gladly receive the Word of God they can be baptised.

Then יהושע {Jehsua} came from Galil to Yohat the Yardto be immersed by him. But Yohwas hindering Him, saying, “I need to be immersed by You, and You come to me?” But יהושע {Jehsua} answering, said to him, “Permit it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him. And having been immersed, יהושע {Jehsua} went up immediately from the water, and see, the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of Elohim descending like a dove and coming upon Him, and see, a voice out of the heavens, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight.” (Matthew 3:13-17 The Scriptures 1998+)
Then those, indeed, who gladly received his word, were immersed. And on that day about three thousand beings were added to them.
    (Acts 2:41 The Scriptures 1998+)
