  1. Responding to an advance copy of the letter, however, state senator Tim Mathern asserted in an Oct. 23 statement that the obligation to “follow your conscience” is in conflict with the obligation of Catholics to form their conscience according to Church teaching, and that Bishop Kagan’s teaching “short circuits conscience formation.”

There are priests in the Church that believe and teach what senator Mathern asserted. My question to them is: Why be part of the Catholic Church if you don’t believe your Church teaches the truth. Christ’s authority is the Catholic Church. All of our bishops, priests, and laity need to ask themselves this question. If the answer is yes, them submit to the teachings of the Church. If the answer is no, please find a protestant church where you are in authority, and can be your own pope. Christ’s teaching are hard and many fall away. It takes prayer, study, the sacraments, good teachers, the many graces of the Holy Spirit, and last but not least FAITH to come to the truth that the Catholic Church teaches with Christ’s authority. Please, if you can’t come to this truth, leave.

    • I agree. I would rather that we have a small remnant of true believers in our Church than to have a huge horde of half-believers and non-believers taking up space in the pews. If you are Catholic, then by everything that is holy and good, you should be Catholic. That means completely Catholic; believing all that the Church has taught you to believe. Read a Catechism for a nice change from watching Jersey Shore on TV. It might do you some good.
