Self-Service Communion: http://www.amerindiaenlared.org/galeria/15/
This particular outrage took place at the Continental Congress of Theology in São Leopoldo, Brazil. At the top of their site in Spanish their proud mission statement reads: “Amerindia is a network of the Americas’s Catholic ecumenical spirit and open to interfaith dialogue and cooperation with other institutions…” The date of the Congress in Brazil was October 11 & 12, 2012.
So, the Catholic Mass is just going completely Protestant now…and we’re all good with that? Is that it? I know, I know–the neo-Catholics don’t like Pope Benedict’s reforms…they prefer the new Mass…they like…On Eagle’s Wings…they like shaking hands, linking arms, and behaving like kindergartners at Mass. Besides, they don’t understand the Latin–blah, blah, blah. Puh-LEEZE! It’s the Mass of all the Saints, Popes, Virgins, Martyrs, Doctors and Fathers of the Church in history. It’s the Mass of the Vendeans, the Cristeros, the English Martyrs, and Catholic heroes back to apostolic times. And, by the way, it’s the Mass of our own grandmothers, for Pete’s sake!
Let’s man up, shall we? It’s not all about you, Mr. Neo-Cat. It’s about the proper worship owed to Almighty God.. Look at the mess they’ve made of our Mass. Where’s is the Catholic outrage? Are there no men left who are willing to defend the Bride of Christ in the face of this sacrilege? If we’re serious about finding our Catholic identity and not morphing into Nancy Pelosian apostates and nut jobs, how about we start praying and worshipping like Catholics again, exactly as the Holy Father wants us to do? Really, isn’t it time to grow up? Or, should we play pat-a-cake with communion wafers like these cats? What’s it gonna be!

Surely intinction itself is wrong, let alone the rest of it?

It is against liturgical law in our country and I would expect that it is the same in most. Self-intinction is definitely a forbidden action.

Seems just so wrong.

It is, indeed. But, alas, the congregations today think that they have equal status with the priests. And, in my mind, the priests that allow such abominations might actually make their point for them.

Indeed – I really don’t understand it at all.

It is all bound up with the secularist and modernist movement in this world. It is an abomination to be sure. They are hell-bent on destroying the Church. But try as they might, it is only their own destruction that they are to reap.

The church will prevail – its enemies will not.

At times it may not look like that is the case – but with the eyes of faith, we know it to be true. 🙂

That’s bizarre! I had to look at the pictures a few times to take it all in. The person most at fault here is the priest. He is the shepherd, after all.

. . . and why has his Bishop allowed this? After all, it is on their website.

I think that only the Eastern rite Catholics receive under both species by intinction. In any case only priests are allowed to self-communicate. This is awful!
But I do understand that it’s a natural result of the secularist culture of direct access and egalitarianism. A scholar by the name of Charles Taylor wrote a spectacular work titled Modern Social Imaginaries http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0822332930. You should read it if you haven’t yet. It does a great job delineating how society got to this point and a general understanding of the modern worldview. My professor argues that it’s important to be familiar with it because people can only understand one nowadays if on speaks on those terms–even if the Scholastic vision is objectively superior.

Thanks for the info, medieval. Sounds like an interesting read as we do need to learn how to understand the irregular thought processes that we now have to deal with when talking to the committed secular left. In fact, I feel that there is little hope in speaking with them. Nothing seems to make a difference: probably the only recourse is to pray that the Holy Spirit penetrates deep into their soul and transforms their way of thinking.
